The hotel and the Camino de Santiago
Is Hotel Kavia Sarria on the Camino de Santiago?
Yes. Hotel Kavia Sarria is at Rúa Maior 34 in Sarria, the main street of the old town through which the Camino Francés passes. The pilgrim route literally runs past the hotel's front door. You can step out and start walking directly from reception without any detour.
Can I get the Compostela if I start the Camino from Hotel Kavia Sarria?
Yes. Sarria is at kilometre 111 of the Camino Francés counting from Santiago de Compostela, which exceeds the minimum 100 km required by the Pilgrim's Office to receive the Compostela. To certify this you need a pilgrim passport (credencial) with at least two stamps per day throughout the route. At Hotel Kavia Sarria we stamp your credencial at reception free of charge and without prior request.
How many kilometres is it from the hotel to Santiago de Compostela Cathedral?
From Rúa Maior de Sarria to Santiago de Compostela Cathedral it is approximately 111 kilometres via the official Camino Francés route. Most pilgrims complete this in 4 or 5 walking stages. The first stage — Sarria to Portomarín — is around 22 km and starts virtually from the hotel's door.
Is the hotel well connected? How do I get there from the train station?
Very well connected. Sarria train station (Renfe line Lugo–Monforte–Ourense) is about 10 minutes' walk from the hotel. The bus station is about 5 minutes on foot. If you would prefer a pick-up, we offer a transfer service on prior request from the station or from Santiago de Compostela airport.
Where can I get a pilgrim passport if I don't have one?
At Hotel Kavia Sarria we provide the pilgrim passport (credencial) to our guests at reception. You can also obtain one at the Pilgrim Welcome Office in Sarria, at the parish church of Santa Marina or at some of the village's albergues. If you want to be sure, get one before you leave home: the Spanish Federation of Associations of Friends of the Camino de Santiago can send it by post.
Bookings and rates
How can I make a booking at Hotel Kavia Sarria?
You can book directly at kaviasarria.com via the official booking engine (best rate guaranteed). We are also available on Booking.com and other online platforms. For groups or stays with specific requirements, write to us at reservas@kaviasarria.com or call 982 043 335 and we'll manage it personally.
Is the price always lower if I book on your website?
Yes. Booking directly at kaviasarria.com always gives you the lowest available rate. Third-party platforms such as Booking.com have prices equal to or higher than ours, plus their own service fees. Booking direct also allows us to give you more personalised attention before your arrival.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellation conditions depend on the rate type you select when booking. Flexible rates allow free cancellation up to a certain deadline before arrival. Non-refundable rates have a lower price but do not allow a refund if cancelled. The exact conditions are shown clearly during the booking process before you confirm.
Do you accept credit and debit cards?
Yes. We accept the main credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard and others). Payment can be made at the time of booking or at check-in, depending on the selected rate. Transactions are processed securely through an SSL-encrypted payment gateway.
Can you hold my room if I arrive late at night?
Yes. If you have a confirmed booking, your room is guaranteed regardless of your arrival time. If you expect to arrive late at night, please let us know in advance so we can organise everything correctly.
Check-in, check-out and your stay
What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is from 15:00 and check-out must be completed by 12:00. If you need to arrive earlier or leave later, please ask us in advance: we offer early check-in and late check-out subject to availability; late check-out carries an additional charge.
Can I leave my backpack if I arrive before check-in?
Yes, of course. We offer free luggage storage for all our guests. You can leave your backpack or suitcase at reception from early morning and collect it whenever you like, without having to wait for your check-in time. This is also available after check-out if you want to keep exploring Sarria before you leave.
Can I request a late check-out to leave later?
Yes. We offer late check-out subject to availability on that day. It carries an additional charge that varies depending on the time requested. Ask at reception the evening before or when making your booking if you already know you'll need it.
What documents do I need at check-in?
At check-in you need to present a valid identity document for all adult guests: a national ID card for Spanish citizens, a passport or equivalent for international travellers. This is a legal requirement for guest registration and applies to all accommodation establishments in Spain.
Rooms and facilities
What room types does Hotel Kavia Sarria have?
The hotel has three accommodation categories. Standard Double rooms are on the ground floor and are ideal for their direct access. Superior rooms are spread across the first and second floors and can be configured as double or triple with an extra bed on request. Suite Apartments with Terrace are in the attic: the most spacious option, with a private terrace and equipped kitchen, sleeping up to 4 people. All rooms include a minibar, TV, high-speed WiFi and a double shower.
Does the hotel have a swimming pool?
Yes. Hotel Kavia Sarria has an outdoor pool for the exclusive use of guests at the rear of the building. Use is included in your stay at no extra charge. It is one of the few hotels in Sarria with its own pool — something pilgrims particularly appreciate for recovering after the stages.
Are there rooms adapted for guests with reduced mobility?
Yes. Hotel Kavia Sarria is a newly built property with full universal accessibility. It has a lift, exterior access ramps and one Superior room fully adapted for guests with reduced mobility: bed at the correct height, step-free walk-in shower, support rails and wheelchair turning space. Please specify this requirement when booking so we can guarantee it for you.
Do the Suite Apartments have a kitchen? What do they include exactly?
Yes. Both Suite Apartments with Terrace in the attic have a fully equipped kitchen, separate lounge, double bedroom, double shower, minibar, TV and a private terrace with outdoor furniture. They sleep up to 4 people. They are the perfect option for couples seeking privacy or small groups who prefer the independence of an apartment with hotel-level service.
Is the WiFi good? Does it reach all rooms?
Yes. The hotel has high-speed WiFi throughout all rooms and common areas. The building is brand new, which means the network infrastructure was designed from scratch. Ideal for uploading Camino photos, video calls with family or working remotely if needed.
Pilgrim services
Do you stamp the pilgrim passport at the hotel?
Yes — it is one of the services we are asked about most and one we love to offer. We stamp the pilgrim passport (credencial) for all our guests at reception, free of charge and without any prior request. The Hotel Kavia Sarria stamp is a valid official Camino stamp for the Compostela. We also provide the credencial to guests who arrive without one.
Do you have a bikecare service for pilgrims cycling the Camino?
Yes. We offer a bikecare service for pilgrims doing the Camino by bicycle: secure storage of your bike during your stay, free of charge for our guests. If you need basic maintenance tools or have an issue with your bike, ask at reception and we will do our best to help.
Do you offer transfers from Santiago de Compostela airport?
Yes. We offer a transfer service to and from Santiago de Compostela airport, Sarria train station and other points on prior request. The service carries an additional charge and requires advance booking. Santiago airport is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes by car from the hotel. Write to reservas@kaviasarria.com to arrange the transfer.
Do you prepare picnic bags for the Camino stages?
Yes. We offer prepared picnic bags to take in your backpack, ideal for stages where food and drink stops are scarce. The service carries an additional charge and must be requested at reception the day before. Ask us for details when you arrive.
Breakfast and drinks
Does the hotel serve breakfast?
Yes. We offer a breakfast buffet at €15 per person. The breakfast service will be added to the hotel a few weeks after the Easter 2026 opening. If your stay is in the first days, please check availability when booking or write to us directly. The drinks menu on our terrace is available from the very first day.
Is there a bar or restaurant at the hotel?
The hotel has a terrace with a drinks menu available from day one. The breakfast buffet will be added a few weeks after opening. We do not have a restaurant serving lunch or dinner, but Sarria has a wide range of restaurants within a few minutes' walk of the hotel.
Pets and accessibility
Does Hotel Kavia Sarria accept pets?
Yes, we are a pet-friendly property. We know that many pilgrims walk the Camino with their dog and at Hotel Kavia Sarria that is not a problem. We just need you to let us know at the time of booking so we can prepare everything correctly. If you have any questions about the conditions or are travelling with a large pet, please write to us before booking.
Is the hotel accessible for pilgrims in a wheelchair or with reduced mobility?
Yes. Hotel Kavia Sarria is a newly built property designed with universal accessibility from the outset. It has exterior access ramps, a lift to all floors, wide corridors and one fully adapted Superior room. If you have specific accessibility needs beyond what we have already provided for, write to us before booking and we will find the best solution. Accessibility is part of how we understand hospitality — not an afterthought.
